L'Italia ha presentato ricorso avverso la nuova interpretazione della normativa dei Campionati del mondo secondo cui la classifica a parita' di punti sarebbe determinata dalla differenza reti generale e non, come si deduce dal regolamento qui riportato e nel caso specifico, dalla migliore differenza reti rispetto alla terza nel girone, ovvero la Nuova Zelanda.

If the game between the two teams resulted in a tie, a further classification shall be estabilished based on their results against the order teams including tied teams in order of their ranking; first based upon goal difference, and next, based upon goals scored. The comparison shall be made first, compared to the highest team or tied teams, and then, if still tied to the next highest team, and so on.
