La Federazione Italiana Nuoto ha ricevuto dalla Federation Internationale de Natation la lettera di condoglianze - a firma del Presidente Julio Maglione, del Tesoriere Pipat Paniangvait e del Direttore Esecutivo Cornel Marculescu - per "la perdita di uno dei più brillanti tecnici d'Italia, Alberto Castagnetti", che "ha condotto molti atleti italiani alla conquista di medaglie d'oro mondiali ed olimpiche" e che ha lasciato "un'eredità di professionalità e devozione per lo sport che ha tanto amato e di profonda ammirazione nelle migliaia di atleti e fans".

"With a career plenty of successes, he has trained many Italian swimmers to gold medals at both the Olympic Games and FINA World Championships. He leaves behind him a legacy of professionalism, devotion to the sport he loved and admiration from thousands of athletes and fans".
"Our thoughts are with all those who could share some of Mr. Castagnetti's lessons in life and in Sport".
"FINA would like to express its most sincere condolences to the Federazione Italiana Nuoto for the loss of a coach extremely cherished by Italian Aquatic Community".
