Excellent performance of Elena Gemo who establishes the Italian record in 100m-backstroke with 1'00"22 (intermediate times of 29"54 and 30"68), three hundredths less than the previous one held by Arianna Barbieri at the Olympic Games in London on 29th July 2012. For the 28-years-old Padoan athlete, now Roman – trained by Mirko Nozzolillo for Forestale and CC Aniene – this is the second absolute record in 24 hours behind the 28"07 reached in 50m-backstroke. This time gives her the possibility to go towards the individual and mixed relay race at the World Championships in Kazan and first of all towards the Olympic competition. Her previous record was 1'00"75 swum on 15th June 2012. An improvement that shows maturity, dedication and awareness.
After over six years, the Italian record is broken also in 50m-breaststroke. An unexpected result, reached by Martina Carraro ranking forth in A final with 31”, eight hundredths less than the time swum, with the “gum” swimsuit, by Roberta Panara on 5th March 2009 at the Absolute Championships in Riccione, The 21-years-old Genoan athlete, that followed Luca Leonardi at the Azzurra 91 of the federal trainer Fabrizio Bastelli, showed her improvement after 31"18 reached at the Absolute Championships on April and to be a protagonist of the next Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. On the higher step of podium, the World record holder, the Lithuanian Ruta Meilutyte with 30"07, at 17 hundredths to the record of the championships reached the last June, and at 19 hundredths to her best seasonal World time. In 100m-freestyle Sarah Sjoestrom is the fastest swimmer – already protagonist, on Friday, with the European record in 100m-butterfly with 56"04 – reaching the Championships record with 53”; the time of the Sweden athlete is the second seasonal world time behind the time of the Australian Cate Cambell (52"69) and the Dutch Femke Heemskerk. The previous record of the competition was 53"09 swum in the 2012 Edition by the Olympic Dutch athlete Ranomi Kromowidjojo, ranking second with 53"65. Behind her Erika Ferraioli with 54”31 – one hundredth to her personal time and the best Italian performance with tissue swimsuit – and Federica Pellegrini with 54"42, at two hundredths to the Italian record established at the Absolute Championships in Livorno on 10th march 2004, showing herself to the world.
Another record of the competition is reached by the Olympic south-African athlete Cameron Van der Burgh winning in 50m-breaststroke with 27"01, second seasonal world time – behind time 26"88 reached by the British Adam Peaty – and 24 hundredths less than the record held by Andrea Toniato at the Edition of last year. Behind this, the personal record of Niccolò Ossola (Forestale) of 27"51.
In 400m-medley Stefania Pirozzi wins with 4'40 and Federico Turrini with 4'19"07. In 200m-butterfly the American Cammile Adams with 2'07"52 and the Hungarian Bence Biczo with 1'56"47. Good result of Simone Sabbioni in 100m-backstroke with 54"15 and Damiano Lestingi with 1'48"44, four hundredths less than his personal time with tissue swimsuit reached in 2013 and second time of the final behind the Dutch Sebastiaan Verschuren with 1'47"88.
