Thirtytwo medals in the first day of Trofeo Settecolli / Clear - International swimming competition; eleven medals are made in Italy. The best results are the Olympic qualification of Arianna Castiglioni in 100m-breaststroke (with her the italian team is composed by 19 athletes) and the fourth best chrono of the season by french Coralie Balmy on freestyle 400m in 4’03”66.
The afternoon starts with the victory of Canadian Kylie Masse on 50m-backstroke with 27”82. Race slower than her heat where this morning she fixed the event record of 27”67. The Slovakian Katarina Listopadova with 28”23, and the champion and Italian record holder Elena Gemo ranks third with 28”40 obtaining a result better than heats (28”51). Also Federica Pellegrini is ranking eighth with her personal best of 29”12 (the previous one was 29”54 fixed on 3rd July 2013 in Turin). The male 50m-backstroke is decided on hundredths: the Israeli Guy Barnea ranks first 25”13, Niccolò Bonacchi one hundredth behind (25”14) and the Hungarian Richard Bohus two hundredths behind the Italian athlete (25”16).
In female 400m-freestyle the French Coralie Balmy, second time in heats, wins on the Hungarian Boglarka Kapas winning the forth world seasonal performance of 4’03”66. In the ranking she is behind the Hungarian (4’03”47) and the American Smith (4’03”33) and Ledecky (3’59”54). Boglarka ranks second with 4’05”65 and Diletta Carli ranks third with 4’07”32. In male 400m-freestyle the match Detti-Paltrinieri is renewed. And it is another show. Gabriele Detti wins and fixes the Settecolli record with 3’44”21 (passagges 54”64, 1’51”33 and 2’48”61) breaking the previous of Ian Thorpe of 3’44”71 established in 2001. Gregorio Paltrinieri ranks second with 3’50”47, almost one second more than this morning (3’49”83) and Matteo Ciampi (Nuoto Livorno) ranks third with his personal record of 3’51”50 improving his previous result obtained in heat (where with 3’53”08 he decreased the time of 3’54”23 fixed on 24th April in Riccione).
The best italian news of the day arrives in 100m-breaststroke. Arianna Castiglioni ranks second with 1’07”15 (35”60 at the passage of 50m) and obtains the qualification for the Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro. The requested time limit is 1’07”3. The her personal record is 1’06”95 fixed on 3rd August 2015 in Kazan. For the 19-years-old athlete, trained by Gianni Leoni, this will be her first Olympic Games. The race was won by the Lithuanian world record holder Ruta Meilutyte winning 1’06”16 and the Japanese ranks third Kanako Wantanabe with 1’07”35. Also the gold of 100m-breaststroke has the sign of the Lithuanian Giedrius Titenis breaking his event record with 59”63 after the time of 59”72 reached in the heat. Personal record for Lorenzo Antonelli ranking second winning the silver medal with 1’00”77 (the previous time was 1’00”92 fixed on 15th April in 2015 in Riccione). Nicolò Martinenghi ranks third winning the bronze medal with 1’00”87, ex aequo with the German Christian Vom Lehn (the previous time of Martinenghi was 1’00”92 reached on the last 20th April in Riccione).
The Hungarian Liliana Szilagyi wins in 200m-butterfly with 2’08”55, ahead the Italian swimmer Stefania Pirozzi with 2’09”66. The Hungarian Laszlo Cseh ranks first in 100m-butterfly with 51”21, ahead the Hungarian Adam Telegdy with 52”74.
Great closure with the speed. The female 50m-freestyle are signed by olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo ahead with 24”28; the Italian record holder Silvia Di Pietro ranks forth with 25”23 repeating the heat time (25”24). The Italian champion of distance Luca Dotto (Forestale/Larus) reaches the time of 22”29 in male 50m-freestyle one second ahead the Japanese Shinri Shioura (22”30) and wins the silver medal. The gold medal was won by the Englishman Benjamin Proud with 22”07 at 22 hundredths early.
