Women's 100m butterfly - Final
Gold medalist. Lana Pudar (Bih) 57"56: I am very happy with my result and especially for honouring my country. This was the first gold for Bosnia. Where I was born it is difficult to swim professionally, there are no olympic swimming pools. I love Rome.

Men's 400m individual medley - Final
Gold medalist. Cedric Buessing (Ger) 4'17"40: I am very satisfied with my races especially after the silver in 4x200 and the bronze in 200 mixed. This gold completes my palmarès. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in this pool, I hope to come back next year for Europeans.

Women's 100m breaststroke - Final
Gold medalist. Eneli Jefimova (Est) 1'07"24: I am satisfied with this gold, that is the third one in these Championships. This is the second international event for me, the first time was in May and I have already won several medals. I couldn't be more happy and proud. It's my first experience in an outdoor pool, but I have enjoyed it very much. I am leaving soon for the Olympics and I am going to do my best to win a medal and to beat my records.

Men's 200m butterfly - Final
Gold medalist. Krzysztof Chmielewski (Pol) 1'56"29: I don't know whether to be more excited about the gold or about standing on the podium with my twin brother. Now I'm getting ready for my first Olympics.
Silver medalist. Michal Chmielewski (Pol) 1'57"09: Winning this medal was exciting. I was hoping for it but I didn't think I could get a silver. It was a hard fight with my brother. We train together in Warsaw, trained by Grzegorz Oledzki.

Women's 400m freestyle - Final
Gold medalist. Merve Tuncel (Tur) 4'06"25: I am very happy with my results. In the last few months I have mainly focused on this event. However, the training for Tokyo is going well.
Bronze medalist. Giulia Vetrano (Ita): 4'12"23: I lowered my personal best, but I was hoping to go under 4'12". I am happy with the results I got this week, it was a good training for Tokyo. This is my last race before the Olympics. I am leaving next week, but first I am going to spend some time with my family and friends, my first supporters. I have just realized that my olympic dream is coming true.

Men's 200m backstroke - Final
Gold medalist. Ksawery Masiuk (Pol) 1'58"41: The results got in these Europeans make me speechless. I am leaving for Tokyo; there I will take part in the relay. Of course I am looking forward to next European Championships. See you next year!

Women's 200m backstroke - Final
Gold medalist. Laura Bernat (Pol) 2'10"14: I am satisfied with my result. I have great expectations for the future, I am leaving for Tokyo after a very tough training. I am happy to be in Stadio del Nuoto. I have already been in Rome and it's a pleasure to be back here. 
Bronze medalist. Erika Gaetani (Ita) 2'11"46: I know I could have done better, but I feel very tired after six days of races. I'm not satisfied with the time, I wanted to set my new personal record. I am going to have two days of rest, and then start again with last races of this season.

Men's 50m freestyle - Final
Gold medalist. David Popovici (Rou) 22"22: This is my last race before leaving for Tokyo. I had expectations for these Championships, but I have done better than we had thought with my coach. I am determined to take gold in next European Championships here in Rome. I love this sport!

Women's 50m freestyle - Final
Gold medalist. Daria Tatarinova (Rus) 24"87: It was very hard but rewarding as well. Russia has an important role in swimming, our athletes often succeed in getting international podiums. We work hard, both swimmers and coaches. 

Men's 800m freestyle - Final
Gold medalist. Yigit Aslan (Tur) 7'51"20: I really wanted this medal. I have been training for a year for it. I'm taking part in Olympic Games. This is my last in junior category. I would like to come back here for European Championships next year.
Bronze medalist. Luca De Tullio (Ita) 7'58"10: I have just come back after few days off due to a health problem. I regret not being able to compete last days, I think I could have got good results. However, I am satisfied with this bronze, even though I have swum 2" over my personal best, I don't mind.

Women's 4x100m medley - Final
Gold medalist. Russia (Aleksandra Kurilkina 1'03"26, Elena Bogomolova 1'06"79, Anastasiia Markova 58"12, Daria Klepikova 54"55) 4'02"72: It was a head-to-head with France, we are very satisfied with this result. We are glad to take part in these Championships, it's the first time in Rome for all of us. We have contributed to the many russian medals, we are very proud of it. We are looking forward to next European Championships here in Rome.

Men's 4x100m medley - Final
Gold medalist. Poland (Ksawery Masiuk 54"41, Bartosz Skora 1'01"34, Pawel Uryniuk 52"92, Mateusz Chowaniek 48"79) 3'37"46. No statment

Turkey record-team and Tatarinova queen of fast freestyle

Twelve finals on the last day of the 47th European Junior Swimming Championships at Stadio del Nuoto in Rome. 
Turkish Merve Tuncel is the queen of the event: after winning 800 and 1500, she also won the 400 freestyle in 4'06''25. With her on the podium hungarian Bettina Fabian, silver in 4'10''16 and italian Giulia Vetrano, third in 4'12''23.
In 100 butterfly, first scheduled final, bosnian Lana Pudar won gold in 57''56, ahead of russian Daria Klepikova and Anastasiia Markova, respectively silver in 58''07 and bronze in 58''73.
German Cedric Buessing won 400 medley swimming in 4'17''40. Silver was won by czech Jakub Bursa in 4'19''20 and the bronze by russian Artem Vorobev in 4'20''21.
Estonian Eneli Jefimova, silver in the 200 breaststroke, was the winner in 100 in 1'07''24, a hundredth less than russian Elena Bogomolova silver in 1'07''25. Third place for polish Karolina Piechowicz in 1'08''93. 
In 200 butterfly, polish twins Chmielewski were ahead of everyone. Krzysztof won in 1'56''92, followed by Michal in 1'57''09. Russian Vadim Klimenishchev is bronze medalist in 1'57''49. Poland leads 200 backstroke too. Gold was won by Ksawery Masiuk in 1'58''41; behind him turkish Berke Saka in 1'59''02 and bulgarian Kaloyan Levterov in 1'59''13.
Fourth consecutive medal for Polish team: in women's 200 backstroke the winner is Laura Bernat with 2'10"14. Behind her english Katie Shanahan, silver in the 100 and leader of the 200 and 400 mixed, in 2'11"27, and bronze for the gold medalist of 100, the Italian Erika Gaetani, in 2'11"46. In the fastest freestyle race, among men, romanian talent David Popovici won again, after gold medal and records in the 100 (first world performance of the season in 47"30) and 200. He dominated in 50 by 22"22. Behind him russian Nikita Chernousov in 22"83 and israelian Martin Kartavi in 22"92. The fastest, among female, russian Daria Tatarinova, silver in the 100, sets the new European Junior record in 24"87 (prev. 25"02). Silver for croatian Jana Pavalic in 25"35 and bronze for english Eva Okaro in 25"45.
Men's 800 freestyle is last individual race in schedule. First two place for turkish Yigit Aslan in 7'51"20, new championship record, and Mert Kilavuz in 7'52"19. Bronze for italian Luca De Tullio in 7'58"10. Mixed relays close the event. Russia won women's 4x100 medley in 4'02"72, followed by France in 4'03"69 and Great Britain in 4'07"49. Polish Team dominated among men in 3'37"46; with them on the podium was Russia in 3'39"30 followed by Ukraine in 3'39"43.

Waiting for Rome 2022. Barelli: "The swimming family is strong" VIDEO

We've given out numbers and statistics, we've told stories, dreams, happiness and delusion, but the enthusiasm of getting back to swimming and getting emotions together goes way beyond that. Let's try to put it down in a couple of videos that show the organising success of six days of competition with more than 25 hours of streaming, 565 athletes of 48 nations wearing in their flags, 1647 races competitors and 144 relays in 42 finals. The next generation looks ahead from the joyful stands of the Stadio del Nuoto to 36th edition of the European Championships scheduled from 11 to 22 August 2022. A dive into the future. A dive between the swimming champions.

"We are really happy for the success of the event - says the president of LEN and FIN, Paolo Barelli - The authors are many: the organization that has ensured the development in full safety, the delegations that have ensured an exemplary behavior, the athletes who have offered excellent performances and shared moments of celebration with responsibility, official and coaches of the clubs that have continued to work despite the huge economic and planning difficulties caused by the pandemic in the last 15 months. From this Junior European Championships the swimming comes out even stronger and more united. Thanks to everyone.

Heats day 6. Ukraine and Russia best teams, Tuncel towards 400 freestyle

Last day of competion at Stadio del Nuoto in Rome for the 47th European Junior Championships. Ukranian and Russian Team are the protagonists of last heats. In 400 individual medley ukrainian Georgiy Lukashev qualifies to finals with the fastest time in 4'21"95 and his teammates (Oleksandr Zheltyakov 55"03, Volodymyr Lisovets' 1'00"88, Andriy Kovalenko 54"04, Artem Chobotar 51"18) win the medley relay by 3'41"13. In the same heat among women russian girls are the leaders: Aleksandra Kurilkina (1'03"09), Iuliia Beznosova (1'09"43), Daria Lunina (1'00"91), Daria Trofimova (54"89) swim in 3'41"13 and aiming for their fourth gold medal in relays. 
Morning session starts with women's 400 freestyle. After setting two European Junior records in 800 and 1500, turkish Merve Tuncel leads her last race too in 4'12"22. Behind her third time for her teammate Beril Boecekler in 4'14"53; between them hungarian Bettina Fabian, second in 4'14"34.

Popovici looking forward 50 freestyle. Russian team and Tuncel record-breakers

Six other finals in fifth afternoon of the 47th European Junior Swimming Championships at Stadio del Nuoto in Rome.
David Popovici is the brightest star of the European Championships and makes the sky in Rome even brighter. The romanian 16-year-old keeps giving emotions without knowing any limit. After his success in the 100 freestyle with the Junior World record (47''30) and the best time of the season, David also got gold in 200 by 1'45''9, after swimming the Junior World record in the semifinals (1'45''26). This year, only south korean Soonwho Hwang swum the 200 freestyle better than Popovici: 1'44''96 on 15th May in a time trial, but the result has not yet been ratified by FINA. With Popovici on the podium were polish Mateusz Chowaniec, silver in 1'47''78, and bosnian Jovan Lekic, who got bronze in 1'48''16. Ten minutes earlier Popovici had qualified for tomorrow's 50 freestyle final with a best time of 22''75.
50 backstroke final was spectacular, with just three athletes on the podium. Gold was won by Carmen Weiler Sastre from Spain in 28''42, silver by Nina Stanisavljevic from Serbia in 28''58 and bronze by italian and gold medalist Erika Gaetani in 28''84.
Lot of excitement in 200 breaststroke with first and second separated by two hundredths. Lithuanian Aleksas Savickas won in 2'13''35, against the 2'13''37. Third place for ukrainian Maksym Tkachuk in 2'13''75.
Two Turks lead the 1500 freestyle. Merve Tuncel won with the European junior record in 15'55''23, which lowered the limit time of 16'02''29; silver went to Deniz Ertan in 16'14''26 and bronze to Paula Fernandez Otero from Spain in 16'19''92.
The afternoon schedule started with the butterfly final. Russian Daria Klepikova won in 26''14, setting the new C; silver was won by bosnian Lana Pudar in 26''29 and bronze by belgian Roos Vanotterdijk in 26''29.
Second gold medal for british Katie Shanahan. The Londoner, after winning 200 medley, was first in the 400 medley too in 2'13''13, beating russian Anastasiia Sorokina in 2'13''84 and hungarian Panna Ugrai in 2'14''37.

Semi-finals. Estonian Eneli Jefimova, silver in 200 breaststroke, swam the best time in 100 breaststroke by 1'07''56. In 200 butterfly the fastest was Russian Vadim Klimenishchev in 1'57''98, the only one among the semi-finalists to go below 1'58. In 200 backstroke the fastest ones were bulgarian Kaloyan Levterov in 1'59''50 and polish Laura Bernat in 2'11''72. The first in 100 butterfly was russian Anastasiia Markova in 58''97. Her teammate Daria Tatarinova was the leader in 50 freestyle, swimming the best time in 25''10.

Below the statements of the winners and the best athletes of the fifth day of the 47th European Junior Championships, in Rome.

Women's 50m butterfly - Final
Gold medalist. Daria Klepikova (Rus) 26"14 CR: I worked hard for this victory and I'm very satisfied, it adds to the gold medals won in 100 freestyle and in relays I felt I could have done even better. Now I'm thinking about next season. I'm happy to be in Rome. I have dreams about my future, but for now I'm focusing on training.

Women's 200m individual medley - Final
Gold medalist. Katie Shanahan (Gbr) 2'13"13: I'm satisfied with my time and with other races I've competed these days. I won three medals. I'm happy to swim in a pool like Stadio del Nuoto: it's wonderful.
Silver medalist. Anastasiia Sorokina (Rus) 2'13"84: It was a tough race, I'm happy with my second place. It's still an international podium. Sometimes you may be second but I don't mind, I'll keep training to win. Races like these make me love this sport.

Men's 200m freestyle  Final
Gold medalist. David Popovici (Rou) 1'45"95: I did the best I could but I feel tired. Anyway, I am very satisfied and surprised with the results. >I'm looking forward to seeing how the 50m will go tomorrow. >The pool is amazing and I love> its atmosphere. I really like the climate in Rome and summer is my favourite season.

Women's 50m backstroke - Final
Gold medalist. Carmen Weiler Sastre (Esp) 28"42: It's my first victory and I hope that many more will come. I took part in European Championships in Kazan two years ago but I did not go beyond the heats. I am very tired because I did two races in a row but I tried to do my best in both. Unfortunately, I did not reach the finals in 50 freestyle.
Bronze medalist. Erika Gaetani (Ita) 28"84: I did not expect this medal, five minutes ago I was in the training pool and I had even forgotten this final. 50m is a unique race, you cannot know who will win. This was the ninth race of these Europeans for me and tomorrow I will have another final. Next year, at European Championships in Rome I will also carry Zeus, my puppy.

Men's 200m breaststroke - Final
Gold medalist. Aleksas Savickas (Ltu) 2'13"35: After silver in 100 I was expecting this medal, but I didn't believe I could have won. Honestly I was hoping for it. I know this pool very well, a week ago I also took part at Settecolli.

Women's 1500 freestyle - Final 
Gold medalist. Merve Tuncel (Tur) 15'55"23 EJ-CR: I am satisfied with my result, it was quite challenging to face the other girls, especially in the first half of the race. Rome is amazing, it's the first time I compete at Stadio del Nuoto.

Women's 4x100m freestyle
Gold medalist. Russia (Daria Tatarinova 55"29, Daria Trofimova 54"61, Aleksandra Kurilkina 55"67, Daria Klepikova 54"53) 3'40"10 CR: We are extremely tired, luckily that's all for today. We didn't expect to win even this relay, but we are satisfied. We would like to thank our National team for all the support given to us during the Championship, we are proud to be part of it.

Heats day 5. Poland in the spotlight. Popovici first in 50 freestyle

Fifth day of the 47th European Junior Championships at the Stadio del Nuoto in Rome.
Morning session starts with 100m breaststroke, in which Eneli Jefimova (Est), silver in double distance, swims the fastest time in 1'08"92. Second time for russian Elena Bogomolova, bronze in 200m, in 1'09"28. 
David Popovici (Rou), after setting WJR in 100m and 200m freestyle, aims for the shortest distance too and gets the first time in 50m in 22"37.
In women's 50m freestyle Russian Daria Tatarinova, silver in double distance, is the fastest in 25"23.
In men's 200m butterfly, polish twins Krzysztof and Michal Chmielewski qualify to semifinals with the first and the second time, respectively in 1'56"23 and 1'56"66. Third time for their teammate Jan Zubik in 1'58"15. 
Masiuk Ksawery (Pol), gold medalist in 100m and silver in 50m backstroke, gets the first time in 200m by 2'01"27.
In women's 200m backstroke Laura Bernat (Pol) is the fastest in 2'12"28. Behind her Katie Shanahan (Gbr), gold in 200m and 400m individual medley and bronze in 100m backstroke, by 2'13"92 and italian Erika Gaetani, gold in 100m backstroke, by 2'15"41.
Bosnian Lana Pudar, silver in 200m butterfly, swims the first time in 100m by 58"76. Second time for Anastasiia Markova (Rus), gold in double distance, in 59"19.
In women's 4x100 relay, french team composed by Mary-Ambre Moluh, Mathilde Pruvot, Giulia Rossi Bene and Lucie Vasquez, qualifies to afternoon session with the first time in 3'45"73.
Last scheduled heat is men's 800m freestyle, in which turkish Yigit Aslan, bronze in 1500m, is the fastest in 7'57"69. Behind him italian Lorenzo Galossi, bronze in 4x200m, and Mert Kilavuz (Tur), gold medalist in 1500m.

Popovic marks the junior world record on 200 freestyle

Six finals in fourth afternoon of the 47th European Junior Swimming Championships at Stadio del Nuoto in Rome.
Simone Cerasuolo got the title in 50 breaststroke. The italian 18-year-old won in 27''29, ahead of two Ukrainians: Rostyslav Kryzhanivs'kyy in 27''75 and Volodymyr Lisovets' in 27''94.
In 100 butterfly bulgarian Josif Miladinov won in 52''00; with him on the podium were portuguese Diogo Matos Ribeiro, silver in 52''54 and british Edward Milderd bronze in 52''72.
French Justine Delmas is the number one in 200 breaststroke. The 16-year-old transalpine won gold medal in 2'25''54, after setting the overall French record in semifinals by 2'25''12; silver went to estonian Eneli Jefimova in 2'28''01 and bronze to russian Elena Bogomolova in 2'28''24.
Then, in 50 backstroke, russian Aleksei Tkachev won in 25''14 followed by polish Ksawery Masiuk, winner of the 100 backstroke, silver in 25''28 and by greek Anastasios Kougkoulos third in 25''63.
200 freestyle showed a high-level final. Hungarian Nikoletta Padar won in 1'59''38, beating british Tamryn Van Selm in 1'59''50 and turkish Beril Boecekler in 1'59''73.
Russia won 4x200 freestyle relay, the last scheduled final. Danil Kosenkov (1'50''96), Maksim Khadanovich (1'50''71), Aleksandr Chiknaikin (1'50''91) and Vladislav Reznichenko (1'48''48) swam in 7'21''06; Silver was won by german team composed by Cedric Buessing (1'51''80), Silas Beth (1'50''30), Kiran Winkler (1'51''33) and Timo Sorgius (1'48''20) in 7'21''63. Third was italian one, with  Lorenzo Galossi (1'50''32), Davide Dalla Costa (1'50''36), Giovanni Gallina (1'52''52) and Matteo Oppioli (1'49''20) in 7'22''66.

POPOVICI KING OF ROME. A star keeps shining at the European Junior Championships in Rome. David Popovici amazed again breaking records. The romanian 16-year-old, who won gold medal in 100 freestyle with a Junior World record (47''30), swam the Junior World record in 200 freestyle semifinals by 1'45''26 too, that is the seventh world time of the year, wiping out korean Sunwoo Hwang's 1'45''92.

OTHER SEMIFINALS. In 200 medley, first time was set by british Katie Shanahan - gold in 400 medley and bronze in 100 backstroke - by 2'14''06. Russian Daria Klepikova was the fastest in 50 butterfly in 26''26. In 50 backstroke and 200 breaststroke best times were set by serbian Nina Stanisavljevic in 28''54 and austrian Luka Mladenovic in 2'13''31.
