SAFETY PLAN
The responsible military and marine authorities guaranteed that they would take care of the safety at no costs. The Italian Swimming Federation - Lifesaving Section (FINS) signed an agreement with the Armed Forces and Military Marine as well as with the Viareggio Harbour’s office and the Coast Guards for that purpose. Safety will be secured by the Coast Guards with their own boats manned with trained staff as well as with helicopters.
The FIN-S has foreseen the presence on the competition sites of a medical and health service centre as well as appropriate ambulances. The centre will be manned with specialised physicians and nurses, all volunteers. The medical and health centre will be co-ordinated by the bodies of Civil Protection, such as the Italian Red Cross (Croce Rossa Italiana), and other services such as the Misericordia Association and the Italian Green Cross (Croce Verde Italiana). The services are linked to the main hospital in Viareggio and adjacent cities.
The above mentioned organisations will have a communication line with local hospitals as well as with the helicopter rescue services.
The FIN-S confirmed that all accredited participants will have the necessary medical and health assistance, 24 hours a day. Medical assistance will of course cover only acute cases and not chronic cases. Example: the medical assistance will cover an acute dental care and will not include e.g. replacing teeth that were already damaged before the competition by dental prostheses.
Law and Order Forces will provide for the security in the hotels (where necessary), on competition sites, Organising Committee offices, and Equipment storage areas.
